This Tuesday, November 19, 2024, it's the turn of Rural Coordination farmers to make their anger rumble in Bordeaux. Leaving Créon around 5:30 a.m., the procession of tractors and light vehicles heads towards the capital via the ring road.

They planned to meet the prefect mid-morning, with “a little surprise” in front of the prefecture. Follow with us their mobilization in the center of Bordeaux.

8 a.m.: manure dumped in front of town hall

On their way to Bordeaux, the Rural Coordination demonstrators stopped in front of the Pessac town hall where they dumped manure and tires around 7:45 a.m.

The demonstrators targeted the town hall of Pessac because mayor Franck Raynal has just banned foie gras at the municipal level in the run-up to the 2024 end-of-year celebrations.

It is the third city in the region to ban foie gras during municipal events (after , then Bordeaux).

After dumping manure, the farmers have lunch before heading back to the prefecture.

7:10 a.m.: reminder of their demands

Concretely, farmers are demanding a reduction in restrictive standards and want to depend on European standards. Unions are also hoping for tax relief, particularly from energy taxes.

As for the EU-Mercosur agreements, “let's not even talk about it: it's chaos, the red line that must not be crossed”, confides a member of the rural coordination to Bordeaux news.

The mobilization dates are not trivial: they correspond to those of the G20, during which these agreements could be signed.

They should make it easier to import agricultural products from Latin America – and they could directly impact consumers' purchasing power.

6:45 a.m.: the action of the day before

Monday, November 18, Young Farmers and the FNSEA have already carried out an action in the center of Bordeaux. They lit a “fire of anger” on the Quai des Chartrons, to make their demands heard.

A delegation then met the prefect around 7:30 p.m.

6:15 a.m.: what the mobilized farmers are planning

Rural Coordination does not plan any blockages or snail operations. The procession will, however, pass through the ring road, which could slow down traffic around 6:30 or 7 a.m.

The route of the procession in the center of Bordeaux has not been communicated, but representatives of the Rural Coordination must meet the prefect at 10:30 a.m. at the prefecture located in Mériadeck.

“We want to re-explain to the prefect what we told him when he came to our farms in the spring,” explains Rural Coordination to Bordeaux news. We are going to take stock again, restore our expectations. » The union also plans a “small surprise linked to the overall demands of farmers”.
