Five people were seriously injured in Béthencourt (North) when the two cars they were in collided on Tuesday June 25, 2024 in the middle of the afternoon. France Blue North reported a head-on collision between the two vehicles. The D45, where the road accident occurred, saw traffic interrupted in both directions to allow the victims to be treated.

Evacuations by air and by road

The gendarmerie, firefighters and two Smur helicopters intervened on site. One of the cars was occupied by only one person, who was one of the seriously injured victims. In the other vehicle, the driver, her passenger as well as another person and a baby were evacuated to different hospitals. The first two were transferred by helicopter, details the radio station.

The voice of the North says that the child, aged 2, was taken out of the vehicle by witnesses to the accident. The people present with him in the passenger compartment are 44, 40 and 18 years old while the driver of the other car is 25 years old. The victims who were not airlifted were taken under gendarmerie escort to hospitals in Lille, Cambrai and Valenciennes (North).
