But his custody measure being “incompatible”, the suspect was finally subject to “hospitalization under restraint”, the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office told AFP this Monday, November 18.
Indeed, the police custody of the man, “with the profile of a drug addict” according to a source close to the case, was lifted on Saturday evening. The individual is not known to the courts. However, he had already “committed similar acts” at home in 2022 “with the threat of suicide”, according to a police source.
The investigation continues
According to this same source, during the hostage-taking on Saturday, personnel from the BRI (Research and Intervention Brigade) as well as a mediator had been deployed to free the four employees “due to the suicide desire of the person concerned”.
The man is currently hospitalized. The investigation, opened for “arrest, kidnapping, and sequestration” and entrusted to the Departmental Judicial Police Service of Hauts-de-Seine (SDPJ 92), continues “while waiting to be able to hear” the suspect, concluded the Nanterre parquet.
As a reminder, a large police force surrounded the restaurant on Saturday, a few dozen meters from the Paris ring road. Snipers had been dispatched to the scene.
