While the F1 Grand Prix has long marked the start of summer in June in Montreal – even if the weather is not always favorable for this event! -, the organization has announced a change of date which will come into effect soon and this may change the atmosphere that you may have already experienced at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Indeed, the Octane Racing Group announced Formula 1’s decision to organize the Canadian Grand Prix in the city at another time for environmental reasons. “This change will consolidate the European part of the racing season into a single consecutive period during the European summer months and remove an additional transatlantic crossing each year for Formula 1 teams and stables, therefore resulting in a reduction significant in carbon emissions,” we can read in the press release from the promoter based in Montreal.
If the event will indeed take place as planned on June 13, 14 and 15, 2025, it will however be brought forward for the following years.
What you need to know: From 2026, the Canadian Grand Prix will be held during the third or fourth weekend of May each year, indicated the Octane Group.
“This change will make our future schedule not only more sustainable, but also makes more logistical sense for our teams and staff. Our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 remains a priority for us as a sport,” argued Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.
However, this change of date also means different weather. Temperatures generally fluctuate between 9 and 19 degrees Celsius in May in Montreal, while they are between 15 and 24°C, according to historical monthly averages compiled on the MétéoMédia website.
