A fire caused significant damage, summarily estimated at $100,000, to a residence on Demers Street in Victoriaville.
The Fire Safety Service (SSI) was alerted around 4:20 a.m. “A neighbor across the street, after hearing a noise, a boom, saw smoke and called 9-1-1,” said indicated the director of the SSI, Patrick Davidson.
The fire started inside the rear carport, the officer said. A young man, the owner’s son, was in the basement when the fire broke out. Fortunately, he was able to evacuate. “He inhaled a little smoke. The paramedics took him for an evaluation at the hospital, but fortunately he was okay,” Director Davidson said.
The owner, a night worker, was at work. The Red Cross was requested to provide care for the man and his son.
Victoria firefighters responded to a general alarm. They were able to count on the assistance of the Princeville Fire Department. Thus, some 25 firefighters were mobilized. Approximately three hours of work were necessary to ensure that the fire was properly brought under control. The situation was declared under control at 7:20 a.m.
The firefighters managed to remove one of the three cats that were in the residence. “We gave him oxygen, then he was referred to a veterinarian,” said the director of the SSI.
It is too early to predict the cause of the disaster. “The lieutenant-inspector for prevention, Pascal Rouleau, will be busy researching the cause and circumstances of the fire,” said Patrick Davidson.
SIUCQ agents were also dispatched to the scene to ensure the security perimeter and the rehabilitation of firefighters.
