“There was no hostage taking. Everything that was said is false!” This Monday, November 18 at the start of the day, on the steps of 23, boulevard François-Grosso, in Nice, the caretaker is as shocked as she is furious.
The day before, in the evening, the municipal police intervened in the garage of the building under their care. Alerted for a very violent altercation between an armed man and a woman, screaming until she lost her voice, the police believed they were dealing with a hostage-taking. The incident ended in tragedy, the man killing himself. As for the woman, she received psychological support.
“She wanted to reason with him”
“But in reality, the lady wanted to stop the gentleman from shooting himself. She wanted to reason with him and he shouted to her: 'Leave, leave, anyway, I'm going to kill myself!' At no time did he take anyone hostage.”assures the concierge, who however did not witness the scene.
Despite everything, she believes she knows that “it was an employee of the restaurant across the street who intervened”. This lady who tried to avoid the irreparable would know the desperate. “He was his boss.”
“Well known in the neighborhood for his kindness”
The manager of Taste of Brazil, “was Portuguese, his wife is Brazilian. They opened in February 2022,” explains a caretaker from another building on the boulevard a little more. Herself a member of the Portuguese diaspora, she portrays a man “well known in the neighborhood for his kindness”, a talkative, extroverted tradesman who brought life to the street corner. “He could never have harmed his wife,” she swears, annoyed that anyone could imagine the opposite.
“She was screaming, she was screaming, it was terrible”
Regarding the spouse of the deceased, the guardians, with modesty and respect, describe her distress in a few words. “She also works at the restaurant. When she realized what was happening, she tried to go to the garage but the police stopped her from going through. She was screaming, she was screaming, it was terrible.”
Locked in his garage, his companion then killed himself, without the police or the employee being able to intervene.
