In his first game of the season, forward Cam White chose the perfect moment to score his first goal by scoring the game-winner in the very last minute of overtime, giving the West-Kent Steamers a 4-3 victory. against the Edmundston Blizzard in a clash that had the feel of the playoffs in the presence of an excited crowd of 2,455 spectators at the Jean-Daigle center.

The Steamers (12-6-1-0) struck first at 12:59 of the opening period thanks to Mathis Tarani (4th). The Blizzard leveled the odds at 5:32 of the second period following Jérémy Fortin’s goal (9th). West-Kent, however, took control of the game with goals from Damon Englehutt (11th, at 8:58) and Xavier Roy (5th, at 16:03).

Trailing 3-1, the Blizzard got going at the start of the third period with goals from Mathieu Pigeon (2nd, at 2:42) and Colby Morin (2nd, at 4:29).

The Blizzard (19-2-1-0) once again dominated in shots (36-26). Steamers goaltender Olivier Dallaire earned the third star. Simon Boucher was in front of the Blizzard cage.

Tarani and Pigeon completed the game with a goal and an assist each. Justin Hébert added two assists in the Blizzard camp. The first star went to Cam White and the second to Pigeon.

The Blizzard thus completes a stay of five consecutive games at home. He will face the Rapides in Grand Falls (4-9-0-4) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

It was the doggies’ game at the Jean-Daigle center. Hundreds of stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice midway through the first period. The small toys will be given to children in the North-West region. The activity was organized with the collaboration of the Edmundston Police Force as part of the Tree of Sharing campaign.
