GTA Trilogy DE update upsets Grove Street Games

A few days ago, Rockstar Games released an update for GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition. The latter has brought many fixes eagerly awaited by the community since its launch on November 11, 2021. A new lighting mode has also been implemented, closer to the original games. At the same time, Rockstar Games deleted all mentions of the Grove Street Games studio at the start of the game. A decision that its CEO is now criticizing on social networks.

A surprise and unexpected update

Recently, Rockstar released a new update surprise on GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition. The latter was particularly well received by the community, correcting several bugs that existed since the launch of the game. It also offers new improvements, such as a new lighting mode more faithful to the FROM original of the Grand Theft Auto games, absent when the Remastered was released. A new studio also appears to have taken over development. Indeed, in the game code, we can discover the mention of Video Games Deluxethe studio behind LA Noire VR.

Grove Street Games removed after new update

However, the studio also removed credits to the original developers, Grove Street Games. Indeed, they are now only mentioned in the credits at the end of the games. This decision seems to upset the studio, as evidenced by its CEO's recent speech on X:

I'm speaking completely hypothetically: It's a dirty move to strip core developers of credits for an update, especially when the update includes hundreds of fixes provided by those developers that remained out of reach. players for years.

Thomas Williamson, PDG de Grove Street Games

Although he does not mention the name of the game, it seems obvious that the latter is criticizing the Rockstar decision. According to the latter, many fixes made during the update come from the work of their developers. He also specifies that the latter have been ready since several yearsbut had not been published by the star firm. Relations between the two studios seem to have been particularly degradedand it is unlikely to see a new collaboration in the future. At the time of writing, Rockstar Games has not responded to the statements made by Thomas Williamson. Furthermore, it seems unlikely that the studio will react, and it is therefore impossible to confirm the version supported by the man at the head of Grove Street Games.
