The “Dirty Dog” competition rewarded Giuseppe for his best canine transformation. More than two kilos of hair were shaved. Here it is in the photo.

While most dog owners take care of their pets, others unfortunately take very little care of them. The Española Humane shelter located in New Mexico takes in these abandoned animals, as is the case of Giuseppe, who was covered in thick furs when he arrived. This abused dog could no longer walk as his hair had become so heavy and painful.

The teams then took charge, shaving off more than two kilos of hair. “Under this mane, we found a small, morbidly obese and terrified dog,” says shelter staff. It turns out that Giuseppe also suffered from hypothyroidism and dental problems. After receiving treatment, the dog was able to regain some strength and rest, although he remained behind, a little traumatized. For eight months, the teams were nevertheless able to witness a real renaissance. The dog is unrecognizable and its rescuers were rewarded in a competition for the best canine transformation.

“Imagine going to a job interview or a first date smelly and covered in dirt. This is what happens to millions of animals waiting for adoption every year, most of them don’t have never been treated” explain the teams. As a result, these unattractive dogs are immediately rejected by adoptive families.

But this impressive shearing will allow Giuseppe to find hope and a new family. The “before/after” photos are indeed surprising and the canine unrecognizable. He therefore won first prize in the competition with $10,000! Today, Giuseppe has even changed his name: his new family named him Joey and gives him all the love and care he needs to live happily. A great reward for “the most horrible case of neglect we have ever seen” says the shelter.
