Since 4 a.m., more than a hundred firefighters have been mobilized and 48 engines have been engaged to try to control a fire in a four-story building on rue Ambroise-Thomas. Many firefighters, off duty this Sunday, were called in for reinforcements.
Around twenty people were evacuated from their homes by firefighters and municipal police officers from Moselle. 3 slightly injured people are currently being treated by emergency services. The residents were welcomed by the town hall, before the families joined their loved ones.
The fire spread to the basement of the building, and smoke was released into the building’s ducts. It was also the municipal police officers who noticed these toxic clouds in an air vent, during a night patrol. This is how the firefighters were notified.
While the origin of the fire is still unknown, the prefect of Moselle, Laurent Touvet, thanked the firefighters and the police for their commitment.
