Five years after the murder of Nathalie Debaillie, mother of two children, the trial of her executioners opens this Monday. Among them, her ex-husband, who admitted the facts, had kidnapped the young woman from the parking lot of her workplace, before kidnapping her and then taking her to her apartment. The Lille region was shaken by this sordid news story. Five years ago, Nathalie Debaillie, mother of two children, was harassed for months by her ex-husband. A complaint and three handrails had however been filed, but no protection had been put in place. One morning, as she got out of her car, the mother was kidnapped by her ex-partner, himself helped by three people. Nathalie was then kidnapped and then had her throat slit.
At the time, it was a colleague of Nathalie Debaillie, who witnessed her kidnapping in the parking lot of the bank where she worked, who alerted the police. The latter had tried to intervene while the small group of men forced their victim into a van. He himself had been targeted by two shots of rubber bullets coming from the victim’s executioners.
“We are in the ignoble”
It was at the home of her former partner, Jérôme Tonneau, that Nathalie’s body was finally found a few hours later. The latter had her throat slit in the bathtub after being gagged and beaten. The investigation will reveal that Jérôme Tonneau, unable to bear the breakup, had specially recruited three henchmen to kidnap his ex-partner. This is what makes this femicide an extraordinary affair, according to Nicolas, Nathalie’s brother.
“We are sure it has never been seen before, to go after as hard as they did against a woman just because she said: ‘I want to leave you. Our story is over’. Justice must be aware of the singularity of this act”, he concludes.
