Algeria Football– A few hours before the last match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, between Algeria and Liberia, an important decision was taken by the national coach, Vladimir Petković. Contrary to what is generally expected during home matches, no training session will be organized at the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed stadium in Tizi Ouzou, the venue of the match.
The last two training sessions for the national team, scheduled for yesterday and today, are taking place at the National Technical Center (CTN) in Sidi Moussa, located near Algiers. This strategic choice was confirmed by a source close to the selection, and it seems to meet several objectives, both logistical and sporting.
The CTN of Sidi Moussa, with its modern infrastructure and quality pitches, offers an ideal setting for the preparations of the national team. In addition to the quality of the facilities, this center has all the necessary equipment to optimize training sessions and the physical recovery of players. By staying in Sidi Moussa, the technical staff probably wants to avoid unnecessary travel and maximize the concentration of the players before this meeting.
This careful management of preparation also reflects special attention paid to the physical and mental state of the Fennecs. Indeed, the players are coming off a series of intense matches, notably the recent confrontation against Equatorial Guinea, which ended in a draw (0-0). In this context, preserving the team’s energy while maintaining a work environment conducive to performance seems to be a priority for Petković.
The match against Liberia, which will take place this Sunday at the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed stadium, is not decisive for qualification. Algeria, already assured of participating in CAN 2025, is approaching this meeting with the objective of refining its automatisms, testing new tactical configurations and allowing certain players to stand out. However, this absence of a public session in Tizi Ouzou could disappoint local supporters, impatient to see their players train in their stadium.
Petković seems to favor discreet and efficient preparation, focusing on serenity and management of details. Supporters hope that this approach will bear fruit and that the Fennecs will offer a show that meets their expectations during this last playoff match. In the meantime, all attention is now on Sunday’s kick-off.
