why is there so much difference in price between eggs?

Egg is the cheapest source of animal protein, but the price differences are significant depending on what you buy. RTL compared the prices of its shopping basket: on one side, a small box of four organic French eggs, bought for 3.50 euros, or almost 90 cents per egg. On the other, a box of ten standard French eggs, paid 2.20 euros, or 22 cents per egg. One of the two is therefore four times more expensive than the other.

How to explain this difference? Mainly the breeding method. There are three ways to raise laying hens. At the very bottom of prices and animal welfare, you have chickens in cages. Ensuite, chickens “on the ground” : they are no longer in a cage, but in a large closed building. No question of going outside for pecking either. The third method of breeding, chickens “raised outdoors“, who have access to an outdoor course during the day.

As for organic eggs, they are free-range chickens that will eat organic cereals. To eat healthy and save money, avoid buying them in boxes of 4: prefer boxes of 6 or 12, boiled down to the egg you will save 20 to 30%.
