Out of 640 students, only 44 came to class this Friday, November 15 at Lezay Marnésia college. The majority of parents therefore mobilized to support the homeless students in their establishment, by not sending their children to school. “We had real success, it worked very well, more than we expected, confides Ilknur Usidi Aydin, parent delegate and organizer of the operation. We know the neighborhood, we know the sensitivity of the parents. The children were happy and proud to be able to contribute to this good cause.

The educational staff have been taking turns night and day since Friday November 8 to occupy the establishment and demand that the European Community of Alsace (CEA), owner of the walls, use the empty staff housing to accommodate families on the street. .

In addition to this undeniable mobilization of school staff, who have occupied the college night and day since Friday November 8, parents and children, it would seem that the situation affects beyond the school circle since an online petition to date has more than 10,000 signatures.

Jean-Luc Ginder, author of the petition and municipal councilor of Bollwiller, sent an open letter to the president and elected officials of the European Community of Alsace (CEA): “You have the premises to save them from promiscuity, from the cold, from the night on the street, but above all, you have the power“, writes the local elected official, also founder of the SOS Enfants Poor de France collective.

In total, thirteen families including at least one child registered in the Lezay Marnésia network have been sleeping on the street since the start of the school year. The teachers have chosen to open the doors of the establishment to four of them every evening since Tuesday, November 12, as a temporary solution.

To date, there has been no official reaction from the community, apart from the comments of elected officials in the media reminding that emergency accommodation falls within the competence of the State. The CEA had also indicated to the protesting teachers, around mid-October, that the vacant accommodation in question would be used to house unaccompanied minors or young adults.

Contacted several times by France 3 Alsace, the community did not respond.
