She admits to having ordered the murder of her ex: a fallen lawyer will go to the penitentiary

A fallen lawyer will swap the courthouse for the penitentiary for ordering the murder of his ex, making false statements to the police and defrauding the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

Noémie Beauchemin, 29, was handcuffed after being sentenced to two years of detention Friday at the Val-d’Or courthouse, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The former lawyer had just pleaded guilty to several charges, including incitement to murder, harassment, public mischief, obstruction of justice and fraud.

“I am ashamed of the behavior I had, of the choices I made. Every day I regret having done harm,” she told the court, in tears.

Noémie Beauchemin, a law scholar at the University of Ottawa in 2019, admitted to making several false complaints to the Sûreté du Québec that year and the following as part of a conflict with her ex-spouse, Michaël Roy .

“The fact of being a judicial officer yourself is an aggravating factor,” underlined Judge Christian Leblanc. This behavior is likely to bring discredit to the entire profession.”

Incitement to murder

The ex-lawyer then sent ephemeral messages on an encrypted messaging platform to an acquaintance, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, asking her to find someone who could make Mr. Roy a “vegetable.” » in exchange for $5000.

She promised the assailant payment of the same amount three months later, in the event that the injuries were permanent.

Beauchemin even offered to pay $35,000 over four years if he got rid of her ex-partner for good.

The young woman from La Corne, in Abitibi, also admitted to having “tried to trap Michaël Roy by placing objects in his vehicle, through a third party, with the aim of accusing him of drug trafficking and production of child pornography,” it is stated in the summary of the facts.

In a letter read to the court, Michaël Roy indicated that his ex-spouse “tried to destroy [sa] life by lies, she circulated on several occasions [qu’il était] a child rapist.

“I was threatened with a fight if I didn’t stop. However, it was the lady who kept lying to the people around her,” continued the man who was in a relationship with the accused between 2013 and 2016.

Mr. Roy was ultimately never accused of anything.

Major fraud

Upon her release from the penitentiary, Noémie Beauchemin will have to comply with a three-year probation, perform 150 hours of community service and repay nearly $105,000 to the SAAQ.

This is because she also admitted to having received compensation for almost two years after a road accident in 2021. She had indicated that she was disabled, even though she had two jobs.

Noémie Beauchemin was disbarred from the Bar only a few months after her admission in 2020. She was accused in particular of having filed in court and transmitted to another lawyer false evidence in a family case.

His exclusion for life was ordered in August 2022, then maintained by the Professions Tribunal last July.
