MOn Wednesday, November 13, a large emergency system was deployed on rue du Milieu, following a major fire in the former slaughterhouses. The site has already been the scene of a first fire which occurred in January 2024, where a fire ravaged part of the former Ressourcerie, located at the front of the site.
Very quickly, three individuals were arrested by the Hazebrouck police, a few meters from the start of the fire. A 15-year-old minor and two adults aged 24 and 25 were taken into custody. One of them had already been involved in the first fire which occurred last January.
The next day, Thursday, November 14, the individuals admitted the facts, but were kept in police custody, to allow room for a confrontation to determine the exact circumstances of the start of the fire. This Wednesday, November 13, more precise information reached us: one of the adults, drunk on the evening of the incident, admitted to being solely responsible for this fire, exonerating the two other individuals.
An intentional start of fire
Drunk that evening, he explains that he intentionally set the fire, specifying that he did not think that it would take such proportions. The two young people who accompanied him allegedly verbally dissuaded him from doing so. A version on which the three parts come together.
Faced with these revelations, the police exonerated the two companions. The perpetrator, for his part, will be subject to a psychiatric assessment soon, before a potential appearance in court.
