The Winterlights program will not end before January 1, 2025. But from Friday November 22, chalets, activities, illuminations and smells of Gluhwein will give the City a festive air.
No one knows the exact size of Santa's hood. But the one for which the mayor of Luxembourg has just released the list of festivities for this 2024 edition of Winterlights certainly has nothing to envy… And here Lydie Polfer announces 39 shows, 99 fairgrounds and trades installed in the chalets (there were nearly 160 requests!), 113 DJs, musicians et groups expected, a hundredworkshops for childrens, projections de films, animationsa solidarity market, etc.
In short, everything to ensure that the capital remains the beating heart of end-of-year events for 40 days and nights. Before kick-off, here's some information to keep in mind…
For fifteen years now, the City of Luxembourg has combined Christmas lights and energy saving. Already by adopting low consumption bulbs/fireflies and today by presenting 100% LED subjects. And this is far from being negligible when you have throughout the streets 3,707 designs !
So, for this year, the electricians connected 417 decorations on lighting fixtures, suspended 31 subjectsplaced garlands on 293 trees, illuminated nearly 540 fir trees and connected more than 46 decorations placed on the ground. Or more than 78 km of multicolored garlands to impress visitors. Bam!
If the technical services accounts are good, they are approximately 1.3 million light points which will shine according to a planning also timed to reduce electricity consumption. Namely: Sunday to Thursday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.; from 4 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and until 1 a.m. on December 24, 25 and 31.
And so that early risers also enjoy this atmosphere, the light decorations will light up daily from 6 a.m. to sunrise.
???? Sunday openings????️
Controversy or not on the reform of work on Sundays, no less than six Sunday opening dates shops will be offered during these Winterlights. It starts on November 24 to then chain together the December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 (then it will be time to think about the sales!)
The site cityshopping.lu will attempt to keep the list of brands up to date open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the last day of the week.
⛸️ Everything slides ????
800 m² of ice skating rink (two-thirds covered) in the middle of the parc de la Kinnekswiss : the habit is formed, so why change? And then it's impossible to get lost for anyone looking for the place, a giant heart will indicate the path to follow from Avenue Amélie.
Another access will be possible directly from the Schuman roundabout and avenue de la Porte-Neuve, there the signage is done with garlands. Once there, 5 chalets will constitute a gastronomic village.
From December 25 to 30, skating rinks in Kockelscheuer will constitute a major point of attraction. And this for the third year. An ice rink will be transformed into a performance hall (with DJs, live bands, shows on ice and special effects announced.
The second ice rink will retain its purpose of welcoming “sliders”. Introductions to the art of skating will be offered during the Christmas holidays. Both for individuals, groups or families.
