Earlier this week, 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri Hernandez responded to the controversy surrounding his successful quest for the iconic award.
In particular, there was condemnation in Spain, with many in the country feeling that Vinicius Junior should have been the winner.
Rodri described the reaction as “strange”, and his international teammate Dani Olmo also feels the same way. According to MD, he believes Spanish football as a whole should celebrate its first Ballon d’Or since Luis Suarez in 1960.

There is no doubt that Rodri deserved the Ballon d’Or, and the same would have been true for Vinicius had he succeeded. It is also true that Spanish football should rejoice at this success.
