Was there an explosion in Montargis or am I crazy?” “What a scare shortly before 9 p.m…. two big explosions shook the house.” “Wallah it exploded [sic]“No, it’s not about fireworks, nor an industrial accident and even less about an early Christmas present from Moscow.

Many of you were alerted by two powerful detonations heard in the north of , particularly in Montargis. We can notably hear them in this amateur video, published from Ligny-le-Châtel, a hundred kilometers further east, at the same time.

As confirmed by the Loiret prefecture on X (formerly Twitter), it is quite simply a supersonic “bang”, made when a plane breaks the sound barrier. “These are two Rafale planes having broken the sound barrier as they returned to their base in Saint-Dizier“, soberly comments the official account.

From November 11 to 29, 2024, exercises involving fighter planes and helicopters take place in Burgundy between , and Semur-en-Auxois. Organized by the 01.451 air support training center at -Ochey air base 133, this training should enable around twenty French and German trainees to follow the “JTAC” specialization (joint terminal attack controller), a key position in the army which plays the role of bridge between land and air maneuvers.

With the help of the wind, this supersonic “bang” can be heard from very far away. In this case, the calls received by the firefighters come, according to our colleagues from the Central Republic, from all over eastern Loiret. An impressive event, certainly, but normally harmless.
