Seven years after the death of Johnny Hallyday on December 5, a new musical mass will be organized at 12:30 p.m. at the Madeleine church. It was the motorcycle club that Taulier co-created in 1992, Les Desperados, which announced the news this Wednesday, November 13.
Since last year, the commemorations of the death of Johnny Hallyday have changed due to the inappropriate behavior of certain participants.
Johnny Hallyday: a mass to pay tribute to the rocker
“The Desperados (…) are organizing a memorial massa tribute to the eternal star, said by Monseigneur Chauvet“, explained the club in a press release. Since last year, it is the motorcycle club which has organized this musical mass on the anniversary of the death of Johnny Hallyday. Almost seven years ago, the Taulier was died of lung cancer at the age of 74. On December 5, fans will be able to meet at the Madeleine to attend a. court show musicalafter a time of contemplation.
The organizers also invited the impersonator Didier Gustin, who put on the show Johnny Free in my head (at the Passy theater). “The Desperados wanted the best imitator of his generation comes to resurrect the voice of the idol of young people by covering three titles from his last show” they explained.
Less frequent events, the church deplores disrespectful behavior
After the death of Johnny Hallyday, masses in his honor were very numerous. The event has taken place every 9th of the month at the Madeleine since January 2018, a month after the popular tribute and his funeral in this church. Over the years, the commemorations have become less frequent. In 2019, Father Bruno Horaist, parish priest of the church, announced the end of these monthly masses. “I will only do more for birthday and funeral from Johnny, June 15 and December 9. The fans are going to be orphans, but it's a lot of organization for me… And they need to mourn” he declared.
In 2023, Monsignor Patrick Chauvet, new director of the parish, for his part announced the end of concert masses. “What I stopped were the celebrations which began with a 2.5 hour concert before mass and which transformed
the Madeleine as if it were the Olympia“, he assured France Blue. He denounced the “disrespectful” behavior of certain participants. According to Michel Priot, member of the Desperados, these were members of a fan association, “Johnny red and black jacket“, which organized masses until 2022. “It had become everything and anything,
we sold things at the exit of the Madeleine“, he lamented. The bikers then took up the torch. “We committed to Monsignor Chauvet to hold masses in the respect for the place“, he added to France Bleu.
