Charts Japan: despite its staggering price, the PS5 Pro starts stronger than the PS4 Pro – News

It's not a failure of your television, the PlayStation 5 is at the top of sales in the Japanese charts of the week, a phenomenon that we didn't think we'd see again since the console suffered a new price increase, at the start september. This week, however, is an exception since it is the launch of the PS5 Pro. Despite a price of 120,000 yen, which is rare for the video game budget of Japanese families, the manufacturer has sold 78,086 copies of its high-end machine. This is solid and even better than the 65,194 copies from the week of the PS4 Pro launch, which only cost 45,000 yen.

If this trend is confirmed in the rest of the world, suffice to say that CEO Hiroki Totoki was not lying when he said that pre-orders for the PS5 Pro were “ slightly higher » to that of the 2016 console. Of course, this initial enthusiasm should not prevent PS5 sales from returning to their (small) cruising speed in a few weeks. Weighed down by a much higher price, the PS5 is currently 206,967 units behind the PS4, after having led the way in comparisons in the archipelago for a long time.

In terms of game sales, Mario & Luigi: The Brotherhood Epic is the major release of the week with 63,441 copies sold in boxes. Nothing disappointing or extravagant for a franchise that is not necessarily used to sensational starts. The game does better than the two episodes of the 3DS (108,005 for Dream Team Bros., 50,105 for Paper Jam Bros.) but quite far from the two episodes of the DS (133,229 for Les Frères du temps, 220,055 for Voyage in the center of Bowser), although download sales will take care of reducing the gap, as usual. As with the other games in the M&L family, it is over time that we will more calmly measure the reception of this episode, the first not to have been developed by the defunct AlphaDream studio.
