three suspects indicted, two imprisoned

Daniel Becquet, a 58-year-old man, was stabbed to death on Sunday November 10 in Marcq-en-Barœul, near (North). The victim, who was walking a friend's dog on Chemin du Halage, was stabbed to death around 6 p.m., near the parking lots of two commercial stores. An investigation was opened for intentional homicide in a state of obvious intoxication.

The public prosecutor of Lille, Carole Étienne, indicated this Wednesday that “a judicial investigation was opened on the charge of intentional homicide in a state of obvious intoxication”. Three suspects were indicted. Among them, two homeless men, one aged 50, a second aged 53. “The facts are disputed” by the accused, said the prosecutor. Two of them were placed in pre-trial detention, while the third was placed under judicial supervision. A fourth person is actively sought. The suspects were brought before the Lille public prosecutor's office on Tuesday evening, at the end of their custody.

The events took place near the canal, in a busy area. A jogger, an emergency doctor, tried to help the victim by giving him a cardiac massage. Despite his efforts, the man died from his injuries before help arrived. According to a source close to the case, the alleged murderer recovered the knife used in the fatal attack shortly before the incident, in the Centrakor store located nearby. It is unclear whether the victim and suspects had a dispute prior to the crime, the circumstances of which remain unclear at this point. A second source mentions a murder
“free”.

“Nothing so sad and so terrible must ever happen again.”
