Basketball player Victor Wembanyama broke his NBA career record by scoring 50 points during the victory of his San Antonio Spurs team against the Washington Wizards (139-130) on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.
The number one in the 2023 Draft – annual selection of university and foreign players not yet belonging to the NBA – did better than his previous mark (40 points) established last March and becomes the second Habs to exceed the 50 mark units in the North American league after Tony Parker (55 points in 2008).
At 20 years and 314 days old, Victor Wembanyama is the fourth youngest player to score at least 50 points in a game behind Brandon Jennings, LeBron James and Devin Booker.
“A sort of private club”
“I want the content of our next matches to make us forget my performance tonight. Let it become just another evening”reacted at a press conference the 2024 Olympic vice-champion with the Blues. “I'll give myself some time to think. This is clearly an important step. It's a sort of private club. It’s obviously something I’m proud of.”
The “rookie” of the previous year, the best beginner, has scored 19.7 points and taken 10.5 rebounds on average per game since the start of the season while his Spurs team is currently tenth (out of 15) in the Western Conference with six wins and six losses on the clock.
