Thursday November 14, 2024, the body of a man in his fifties was found in his apartment, in Vern-sur-Seiche, south of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). Neighbors were alerted in the morning by a smell of smoke in the common areas. Warned, the lessor of the building contacted emergency services at 8:20 a.m. Four police officers were on site this morning. The victim was found on the floor next to his bed. Part of the main room was blackened by the flames.
The preferred accidental track
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. According to initial information, the room was closed from the inside, reducing the possibility of a criminal act. The accidental track is preferred. The fire, which apparently broke out during the night or early in the morning, was extinguished when emergency services arrived.
Presenting physical and mental disorders, the victim, followed by the Guillaume-Régnier hospital center in Rennes, had resided in the building for several decades. An autopsy will be carried out to determine if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Residents of the two-story building were evacuated.
