Apple does not want to comment on rumors, the apple brand has never done so in its history, it has no reason to start today. Therefore, you should not expect it to confirm the following information. The release of iOS 18.2 is scheduled for December 9.
If we can say this with so much certainty, it is thanks to a little message, sent by the British telephone operator “EE” to its customers. The latter explains that it will be impossible to make Wifi calls on this particular day of December 9 from a Mac or an iPad. The absence of this functionality, for a single day, known weeks in advance, can only be the consequence of one thing: the release of a major update on iPhones.
The date of December 9 also corresponds to Apple’s predictable calendar. The iOS 18.2 update is still in beta and a build candidate is expected to be released in the coming days. Around ten days later, the general public will in turn be able to benefit from the update.
If this date of December 9 is therefore the big favorite for the moment, it could nevertheless face competition in the coming days from another Monday in December, that of the 2nd of the month. Indeed, it is another source, just as reliable as the British telephone operator which relies on the first Monday of the month. This is the journalist Mark Gurman, an absolute reference when it comes to Apple.
iOS 18.2 an update not to be missed
In a post for the Bloomberg media, he explains that he does not believe in the theory of an update on December 9, he prefers the idea of a release in “the week of December 2” without giving further details. As a reminder, the iOS 18.2 update should arrive in the coming weeks, before the end of year holidays, to launch a new period for Apple.
This year especially, with the deployment of Apple Intelligence, the update is even more important. It must integrate new features such as Genmoji (offering users the possibility of creating emojis by themselves), image Playground (an image-generating AI) or even the integration of ChatGPT in the Apple ecosystem and in particular in Siri.
In addition to these features, linked to Apple intelligence, and therefore not available in France at the moment, Apple should continue the “classic” development of its operating system by correcting bugs and providing new features linked to the new interface, much more customizable from iOS 18.
