(Bécancour) A collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a car left one dead and one seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon in Bécancour, in the Centre-du-Québec region.
Published yesterday at 7:35 p.m.
Emergency services were requested around 1:15 p.m. to the scene of this major collision that occurred at the intersection of Route 263 and Chemin des Bouvreuils, in Bécancour.
“According to preliminary information, the trucker crossed Route 263 coming from Chemin des Bouvreuils and there was an impact with a car which was already traveling on Route 263 heading south, in a 90 km/h zone,” specifies a press release from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The two occupants of the car were taken to hospital. The passenger, a 79-year-old woman, was in critical condition and ultimately succumbed to her injuries, while the driver, an octogenarian, was seriously injured. The truck driver was not injured.
Route 263 has been temporarily closed to traffic, in both directions, between chemins des Bouvreuils and des Milans, for an indefinite period, in order not to interfere with the work of SQ investigators at the scene of the collision. Traffic has since been restored, in both directions.
The SQ investigation continues.
