The place of women is evolving in our societies, but there is still a long way to go. As part of documentary month, a film will be screened in Aniane, this Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m., in the village hall. I will scream on your walls, presents the experience of women in Marseille to reclaim public space and talk about their reality, their anger, and their aspirations in happenings of street art. The opportunity to ask questions to Élodie Sylvain, director, present at the screening with Charlotte Ricco who accompanied her on this project.
How did you come up with this idea for a film?
Charlotte and I have made several documentaries on feminism. We felt the need to continue exploring female voices and their ability to transform public spaces by creating a web series called Plant your bomb. Subsequently, we were intrigued by the messages that we saw appearing on the walls of our own streets in Marseille. Direct and impactful speeches. I will scream on your walls was therefore born from our desire to make this street feminism visible.
Where are women on the path to equality?
Equality is struggling to progress everywhere. In the United States, the right to abortion is once again under threat. In Iran, Ahou Daryaei was arrested for daring to resist the “ morality police“. In Afghanistan, the Taliban are literally erasing women from public life. In France, the challenges also persist: salary inequalities, street harassment, consent… It is obvious that the fight for equal rights is far from being won. Progress is far too slow, hence the need for direct and committed actions like those of. I will scream on your walls.
More and more men are getting involved…
It was about time! This fight is everyone’s business. It is therefore essential that men participate to support women, but also to profoundly transform mentalities and society. Their presence is valuable in countering movements that support masculinist positions. The more of these men there are, the more we will be able to see a significant change in mentalities and behaviors.
