A fire broke out this Wednesday afternoon in a grain silo belonging to the agricultural cooperative South Burgundyrue Gaston Chevrolet in Beaune. It caused the release of significant smoke. According to SDIS 21, the fire started from a grain dryer containing approximately 60 tons of sunflowers. Significant smoke began to emerge from the silo around 2:30 p.m. before impressive flames appeared half an hour later.
A risk of collapse
The importance of this fire gave rise to fears a risk of collapse and spread to neighboring buildings. 44 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, by the Intervention and Rescue Centers of Beaune, Nolay, Dijon and Seurre.
Five fire vehicles including 2 “forest fire” tankers as well as two large ladders, a “long distance establishment” vehicle, a drone team, and six command vehicles were also mobilized.
The Codis firefighters is activated at orange level.
Neighboring businesses evacuated, road cut
This silo being installed in the artisanal zone of Beaune-Vignoles, the police requested the evacuation of businesses located nearby, in particular RTP Compagnie.
Departmental road 973 had to be cut and diversions were put in place by the Beaune police. We could no longer travel towards Seurre from the roundabout of the ring road to Ruffey. In the other direction, traffic was diverted towards the hamlet of Challanges.
