Bryan OkeNewfoundland and Labrador’s wildfire manager, confirms four fires have gotten out of control in central Labrador, but says crews have managed to keep them from spreading quickly over the past few days.

IL said there are four water bombers and five helicopters working to put out the flames.

Authorities would monitor the situation closely, he adds, because Environment Canada is warning of thunderstorms in central Labrador overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, accompanied by rising temperatures and violent winds.

Teams are also in contact with authorities in neighboring Quebec, where two fires are burning near the Labrador border.
