Dijon – Voltaire nursery school winner of the 2024 Researchers in Acts Prize for Equal Opportunities

An innovative project to reinforce learning through music.

The Voltaire Nursery School in was awarded an award during the 5th edition of the Chercheurs en Actes Prize for its educational initiative “The Symphony of First Names”, a project aimed at reducing skill gaps between students through the use of music . The Symphony of First Names: music as a learning lever
As part of a study conducted by neuroscience researchers, teachers at the Voltaire school explored the impact of music on reading skills and academic success. Their project, “The Symphony of First Names,” uses personalized “score cards” for each child, facilitating musical activities structured around synchronization, anticipation, and inhibition. These exercises develop cognitive skills essential for learning to read, and the first results are promising: the students who participated in this approach obtained better scores on national CP assessments, with notable progress compared to the control group.
« By strengthening cohesion between the teaching team and including families, we have succeeded in creating a stimulating and inclusive environment which contributes to equal opportunities for success for each student. », declares a teacher involved in the project.

In addition to the Dijon project, other winners include the Collège Sacré-Cœur in with a program for the inclusion of assistance dogs to develop the emotional intelligence of students with disabilities, the Collège Pablo Picasso in which uses videos 360° to fight against school phobias, the Camus-Sermenaz high school in with its 3PM support program for 3rd Prépa-Métiers students, and finally the district with an innovative project aimed at improving documentary reading of students.
