Marc Cucalón, a promising Real Madrid academy talent, announced his retirement at the tender age of 19 on Tuesday. The midfielder, considered one of the gems of the Juvenil A team coached by Álvaro Arbeloa, was forced to put away his boots due to a bacterial infection.
On September 6, 2022, Madrid faced Celtic in Glasgow, marking their debut in the 2022-23 Youth League. Alvaro Arbeloa’s side had high hopes, leading the match 6-0 against the Scots, but it was in the 77th minute that drama struck.
Marc Cucalón, a key player in the squad, suffered a severe tackle from an opponent which resulted in a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury proved devastating not only for Real Madrid but also for the midfielder himself, as it unknowingly marked the end of his footballing career.
