Seven people were killed, and two others injured, one of them seriously, in a traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday early in the evening near Chartres, we learned from the emergency services and the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir. Who are the victims ?
Five young people, aged 17 to 19, died in the fire in their vehicle. All were from around Chartres, indicates The Republican Echo. A couple aged 80 and 85 were also killed in the collision, which involved three vehicles shortly before 7 p.m. on the RD921 in Bailleau-le-Pin, said Frédéric Blanc, chief of staff of the prefect of Eure-et- Dormouse.
In the third car, a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were injured, one seriously. They were transported to the Chartres hospital center.
What are the circumstances of the accident?
“A first vehicle which was traveling in the direction of Illiers-Combray – Chartres, in which there were five young people, collided with another vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction, in which the elderly couple was,” explained Frédéric Blanc.
“The first vehicle then collided with a third vehicle which was also coming in the opposite direction. The first vehicle caught fire,” added the chief of staff.
The mayor of Bailleau-le-Pin, Martial Lochon, deplored a “very violent shock” on France Info. “The chances of escaping were almost non-existent,” he adds, attributing this accident to the “speed” at which one of the five young people was driving. This is also underlined by the Chartres public prosecutor. “The most likely hypothesis is that the car of the five occupants was driving too fast,” he said this Wednesday morning on RMC.
What means deployed?
Forty-three firefighters were mobilized as well as a Samu helicopter and two Smur vehicles. In addition, the prosecution has opened an investigation into homicide and involuntary injuries.
