The exploitation of the cinema room de Revel is entrusted by the municipality to the company Véo Cinemas as part of a public service delegation contract. The concessionaire has just established its annual activity report for the year 2023. And this was revealed in broad terms and through several figures by the mayor, Laurent Hourqueton the occasion of the last municipal council.
“In total, these are 30,729 spectators which were welcomed throughout the year 2023, which represents a 8% increase in attendance compared to 2022,” the elected official first clarified. Before agreeing that this progression was, however, lower than that observed at the national level (+ 19%).
This can be explained by the closure of the room for two weeks due to work on the roof. […] But it is starting to rise again, even if we have not yet found the 42,000 to 43,000 spectators before Covid.
There were 1,102 sessions in 2023
The Véo Cinémas report also offers a spotlight on the theater's programming. “There was 245 films scheduled for a total of 1,102 sessions. We are on an average of approximately 2.5 sessions per day. There was 35 films and a national selection et 15 in preview», specified Laurent Hourquet.
“We also had the screening of 150 arthouse titleswhich represents 61% of programming. And there was 19,900 spectators over these 435 sessions which proves that there is a real audience for arthouses in Revel, but also that the venue's programming is very eclectic, contrary to what some people sometimes say,” he also rejoiced. Before also recalling the implementation of devices to interest the young audience and the work carried out by the association The Z’Allucinés which offers, on Sundays, specific sessions often accompanied by conferences.
An affordable price
Another reason for satisfaction for the mayor: the average price of €5.20 practiced at Ciné Get. ” He is 25% lower than the national averageand it is a very low price compared to that charged in large cities,” he analyzed.
The elected official then focused on the financial balance sheet of the dealership with a turnover which amounts to 165 000 €. “Of this sum, there is €64,000 film rental. So there is already only €100,000 left and we have not started paying either the operating costs or the staff. Which means that the dealer has a operating result in deficit of around €26,000», Underlined the mayor.
The town hall puts its hand in its pocket
As provided for in the terms of the concession contract, part of this deficit will be absorbed by a financial aid provided by the municipality of Revel. This was also voted unanimously at the same municipal council.
“When we are on a attendance which is less than 32,000 spectatorsas is the case in 2023, it is expected that the municipality will contribute to the delegatee's budget with a specific grant of €9,000», informed the councilor.
It is important to continue to have an operator for this cinema and we must look at this €9,000 while having in mind the service provided to the population who are spared from having to go to Castelnaudary or Castres to go to the movie theater.
A rather positive start to the year 2024
At the end of the presentation of this Ciné Get activity report for the year 2023 and after welcoming the “good local work” carried out by Véo Cinémas, the mayor of Revel spoke of first positive signals in terms of the attendance rate of the room in 2024.
“The figures are rather correct and are even starting to rise again,” he announced, explaining that this good start was notably driven by films like A little something extra, Le Comte de Monte Cristo et Vice Versa 2. “This is perhaps what was a little lacking in 2023, where there were a few fewer of these films and blockbusters», noted Laurent Hourquet.
