According to kyiv and Washington, Russia is preparing for a large-scale counter-offensive in the Kursk region, partly under Ukrainian control since a surprise attack carried out in early August. Vladimir Putin thus intends to arrive in a position of strength at the negotiating table before the arrival of Donald Trump at the White House.

Vladimir Putin is preparing to play big in the Kursk region. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday (November 11) that Russia had assembled 50,000 troops, including North Korean troops, in the hope of retaking the approximately 1,000 km2 controlled by kyiv in Russian territory, before taking office of Donald Trump in January 2025.

While Russian forces have already carried out multiple attacks on Ukrainian positions with missile and artillery fire, this is the first time they have engaged in a major counter-offensive.

Russian forces have already carried out preliminary reconnaissance and their air raids have increased by 30 to 40 percent over the past two to three weeks, the officer added.
