Is he often late? Unprofessional? The Red One actor responds to the rumors.
“Yes, it happens. But not as often as that…”
Interviewed by GQ before the release of its buddy movie Red One, Dwayne Johnson reacts to the article published by The Wrap this year, in which people present on the set denounced his behavior “unprofessional”. Anonymously, it was detailed that the star often arrived late, and had surprising demands, such as his requests for empty bottles from his assistant… so that he could relieve himself there. One way “to save time by avoiding a trip to the toilet”it was specified. The article suggested that the actions of the star would have cost the production dearly, Amazon MGM Studios having paid no less than 250 million dollars for this blockbuster by Jake Kasdan (who already directed The Rock in the Jumanji recent), and also worn by Chris Evans.
Is Dwayne Johnson a diva? Red One’s budget reportedly exploded due to repeated delays
“Yes, it happens. But not as often as that, by the way, Johnson responds this week about his lateness on set. The numbers that were given are crazy. It’s crazy. Ridiculous.”
Concerning his “pee breaks” in bottles when he turns too far from his caravan, he also answers in the affirmative:
“It’s true, it happens… I’ve said it a thousand times: ‘I am here. Come ask me the question directly. I’ll tell you the truth.’“
The actor and producer concludes by saying that all the rest of the paper “is wrong. It’s bullshit.”
Jake Kasdan and Chris Evans then took to his defense, the first explaining that “Dwayne has never missed a day of work. Ever. He has a lot of things to deal with, so yes, he can be late, but that’s how it is in Hollywood, it happens to everyone . Honestly, I’ve done three films with him and I’ve always seen him be nice to every person on set.”
“The guy I saw, adds his playing partnerI can compare it to behavior that I have witnessed on other sets, with actors who are not aware of the time and efforts of the people around them, and who are unpredictable. I don’t think Dwayne is like that. We know exactly what he’s going to do and when.”
Evans then explains that if Dwayne sometimes arrives late on set, it’s because he trains every morning before filming:
“It’s something that the whole team knows about: the producers, the director, his own team… Everyone knows (that he does sports before filming). That’s the norm, it’s not like he’s late without warning. In fact, personally, I don’t even see it as a delay, it’s part of the plan. (His workouts)it’s planned in the schedule, everyone is aware, so it arrives when it should arrive.”
Chris Evans adds that Dwayne Johnson can be very generous on a film set, taking for example a prize pool set up on that of Red One for the members of the technical team, in which the star would have participated to the tune of 100,000 dollars.
Red One will be released Friday in the United States. It has not yet been released in France, but here is its trailer:
