Cinema and town hall evacuated after gas leak in Château-Thierry

Around a hundred people found themselves on the Place du Beau-Richard, destitute, this Tuesday, November 12 around 3 p.m. A gas leak was detected on the ongoing construction site at Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville after a pipe was damaged.

The town hall as well as the cinema therefore had to be urgently evacuated. Around 70 children and supervisory staff from the Brasles nursery and primary school were present in the cinema for a screening. They finally returned to school. A security perimeter of around fifty meters was set up around the medium pressure leak. The Bill’ig Café is one of the establishments concerned.

Reduced leak, general gas cut-off

GRDF employees intervened to reduce the leak. They then looked for the valve responsible for the sector in order to carry out a general closure. Police and firefighters secured the scene. Employees of the town hall and establishments affected by the evacuation can now return to work.
