Côte-d’Or: a “Grand Cru” appellation sign sold for 3,500 euros

We have all seen these signs for more than 20 years in the Burgundian vineyards where they specified on the roadsides the local appellations crossed, some of which were for prestigious wines. But time passed by and some had become too old or damaged . The nomenclature of the appellation panels of the great wines of Burgundy has also changed over the last two years. It is for all these reasons that the BIVB, the Interprofessional Burgundy Wine Bureau, organized a big auction to sell more than 600 appellation panels that make our Burgundian wine heritage famous. The sale took place from the Cité des Climats et des vins de Bourgogne in but on the internet. A few days before another very prestigious auction, that of Hospices de Beaune wines, the 154th edition of which takes place on Sunday November 17.

If depending on the panels the starting value varied, as for wines, depending on the climate, the final price could also reach heights. This is the case for the sign indicating the “Grands-Echezeaux Grand cru” appellation which was sold for 3,500 euros. As with the sale of Hospices de Beaune wines, this panel was offered as a “presidents’ lot”.
