As Senenews reports, during a search carried out among the guards of Barthélémy Dias, mayor of Dakar, a large quantity of bladed weapons was seized. Among the confiscated objects are cutters, batons, gas pumps, knives and machetes, specifies Senenews. This operation took place following the arrest of several bodyguards of the elected official, despite the regulations in force which strictly prohibit the use of bladed weapons or any equipment that could represent a threat to public security.
On social networks, many voices denounce this situation, describing the possession of such weapons as “self-defense transformed into armed violence”. Some Internet users do not hesitate to accuse Barthélémy Dias of promoting intimidating practices. The tension remains palpable, as calls for respect for the law and an end to armed violence multiply.
The arrests took place during a convoy check by the Multipurpose Intervention Brigade near Thiès, during which seven Dias security agents were arrested. This incident occurs in a climate of growing political tensions, fueled by accusations of violence made by Ousmane Sonko against Barthélémy Dias, against a backdrop of electoral rivalries.
Other arrests took place in Saint-Louis, where law enforcement also seized several weapons.
