On Wednesday, November 20, state services organized the closure and evacuation of a car scrapyard installed illegally in the town of Thor.
Inside the site established for several years, the piled-up vehicles were not declared.
In addition, the activity involved “serious damage to the environment”indicates a press release published this Friday by the Vaucluse prefecture.
“Following several visits and inspections on the sites carried out by State services, a prefectural decree put the operator on notice to regularize its situation and put an end to environmental damage”adds the document.
Something that the owner of the scrapyard did not do. The prefecture then imposed a fine before ordering the closure of the site and the evacuation of all vehicles present.

The operation mobilized the Vaucluse gendarmerie, the municipal police and teams from the interdepartmental unit of the regional environment, planning and housing department (DREAL).
It made it possible to remove the forty stored vehicles as well as numerous spare parts, at the same time revealing seven additional offenses.

The prefect of Vaucluse “recalls its commitment to the fight against environmental damage in the department”concludes the press release. He highlights the action taken by the DREAL for several years in the fight against offenses of this type.
