In a short time, this American woman’s life was turned upside down twice. A few weeks ago, Debbie Bury noticed that she could no longer play blackjack correctly, her passion. She then decided to consult a doctor. Tests revealed she had stage 4 brain cancer, reports CBS News.

The great-grandmother was then hospitalized in a facility in Minnesota. “She was a real joy for the team,” a head nurse in oncology told our colleagues, even calling her the “queen of the hospital.”

“It just had to happen.”

Supported by the staff, Debbie Bury was also able to benefit from the presence of her loved ones, family and friends. During one of the many visits she received at the hospital, someone gave her a scratch ticket themed to the Minnesota Vikings, an American football team. Debbie Bury thought she had won $100 before realizing she had just pocketed $100,000.

She thought it was a fake ticket, until her daughter assured her otherwise. If it is often bad moments that are experienced in the oncology department, this time, it is an explosion of joy that was felt. “It just had to happen,” commented Debbie Bury. And since good news never comes alone, the operation the patient underwent went well. “I will live to be 80,” the American convinces herself.
