Just like Lionel Messi, posing with the World Cup on his bed after Argentina’s victory in 2022, Rodri also has great affection for his precious Ballon d’Or.
He explained with humor: “I sleep with him and try to take him everywhere.
My mother wants to put it in the entryway of the house so everyone can see it. ‘Mom, please.’ ‘No, no, let them come and see it’…”
This anecdote quickly sparked reactions online.

Rodri’s comments did not go down well with some Real Madrid fans, who regret that their player Vinicius did not win the Ballon d’Or.
For them, the decision of Rodri’s mother to place the trophy in plain sight would be a « torture » for fans of the Merengues.
Displaying the trophy in an ostentatious manner could, in fact, be seen as a provocative gesture by those who hoped to see another name included in the prize list.
Rodri also wanted to recall the constant effort he had to make to get there.
He declared: “I won the Ballon d’Or thanks to consistency, which is the most difficult thing in football. I was the most consistent player of the season…”
