The president of the Union of Food Importers, Hani Bohsali, assured in a statement on Monday that the prices of food products were stable and that there was no fundamental factor that would push them to increase.
He stressed that the stability of prices of basic food products was explained by an abundant supply, far exceeding demand on the domestic market, as well as a high level of competitiveness. He added that this stability was confirmed by statistics published by the Ministry of Economy and the Central Administration of Statistics.
In this context, he specified that Lebanon maintained, to date, the highest level of stocks of food products, distributed between warehouses, supermarkets, grocery stores and homes. He assured that everyone had taken the necessary precautions to stockpile food in anticipation of a possible intensification of Israeli bombings and a blockade similar to that of 2006.
Mr. Bohsali recalled that “brotherly and friendly countries, as well as international organizations, provide aid to Lebanon, in particular in the form of thousands of tons of food products, which contributes to stabilizing prices, particularly for foodstuffs included in this help.”
