Moselle firefighters were mobilized in large numbers this Monday, June 17, 2024, in Metz Borny. Five people were injured, two of them seriously, near a convenience store. An important security system has been deployed.

This Monday morning, June 17, 2024, the emergency services were called to intervene in Metz Borny in the area of a supermarket, avenue du fort des bordes.

According to our information, firefighters treated four stabbing victims, who were taken to Mercy hospital in Metz. The vital prognosis of one of them would be in jeopardy. Another injured person went to hospital on their own, according to AFP.

The victims, five men, are around thirty years old. According to a police source, they are of Afghan nationality and the manager of the convenience store was targeted, but his condition did not allow him to be heard. The four other injured people do not speak French. The perpetrators fled, adds the same source to AFP. Firefighters deployed four ambulances and around fifteen men to the scene of the attack.

At least one individual carrying a bladed weapon is believed to be involved. It could be an extortion attempt, but this has yet to be determined by investigators. A vehicle was found by the police on rue des Feivres in Metz.

An investigation was opened on the charge of attempted murder and entrusted to the interdepartmental judicial police service (SIPJ) of Metz. “The terrorist hypothesis is excluded at this stage“, specified the Metz prosecutor, Yves Badorc, to AFP.
