It was in 2022, the Jura department was experiencing forest fires, devastating hectares of forest areas. In order to be better prepared for this risk, SDIS 39 hosted level 3 forest fire training for 10 days.
11 interns from several departments
Extended over a period of two weeks, the training aims to train forest fire intervention group leaders. A group is made up of a command vehicle with which is associated four tanker and armed trucks, for a total of 18 firefighting personnel, with forest fire ranks and qualifications including driving on unsuitable roads. The first week focuses on obtaining the level of the ECASC (Civil Security Application School) located in Aix en Provence. It is based on theoretical work and the use of computer simulators and virtual reality to acquire operational reflexes.
The Jura hosted the second week of training, more focused on field intervention. With the application of techniques and scenarios, trainees are also prepared for the management of air assets that can be engaged in this type of intervention (water bomber planes and helicopters).
Around forty scenarios
Over the week, around forty role-plays in several sectors of the department took place (Poligny, Champagnole, Clairvaux les lacs and Moirans en Montagne) allowing the trainees to confront the real constraints on the forest lands of the Jura (which have also become at risk in recent years).
The maneuver sites were prepared by an educational team led by Commander Sylvain Richard, head of the Human Resources and Training group, assisted by Lieutenant Christophe Bruey, departmental technical advisor for forest and natural area fires and 2 officers from the SDIS of Bouches du Rhône and Alpes Maritimes.
In total, 11 trainees from Jura, Yonne, Meuse and Doubs were trained.
During periods of risk, everyone must be vigilant, this involves maintenance and clearing of brush near buildings and respecting the ban on fires in natural environments, a simple cigarette ash can have consequences terrible…
