A fire broke out in an apartment in a building on rue Louis-Demarest, in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, south of Rouen (Seine-Maritime), this Monday, November 11, 2024. A woman, around 50 years old , died. The other occupant of the home, also a man in his fifties, was injured.

3:47 p.m., this Monday, November 11, 2024. The Seine-Maritime firefighters were called for smoke escaping from the outbuildings of a building located rue Louis-Demarest, in Sotteville-lès-Rouen.
The Smur doctor declares the death
The fire came from an apartment on 3e floor of this residential tower which has five in total. Arriving on site, the firefighters discovered that the sofa was on fire. The two occupants of the accommodation are taken care of by the firefighters and the Smur. “After an attempt at resuscitation, a woman of around 50 years old was declared dead by the Smur doctor,” indicates the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis). The second victim, a man also aged around 50, was injured. He was transported to Rouen University Hospital.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire around 4:15 p.m., before carrying out clearing and ventilation operations. Nine residents were evacuated.
