Director Érik Canuel died last Saturday.

Born into a family of artists in 1961, in Montreal, Érik Canuel was the brother of actor Nicolas Canuel and the son of actors Lucile Papineau and Yvan Canuel.

In addition to devoting himself to the seventh art, Érik Canuel has directed episodes of the series Big Wolf on Campus, Flashpoint, Fortier, Ransom, The Hunger And Transplant.

He also founded Kino Films with two colleagues. They have worked in particular in the world of music videos and advertising.

In 2000, he received a Genie Award for Hemingway: A Portraitbefore directing several feature films, including, in 2006, the first bilingual police action comedy, Good Cop, Bad Cop. The film starring Patrick Huard and Colm Feore won the Golden Ticket at Jutra 2007 and three 2007 Genie Awards, including Best Film and the Golden Reel. Good Cop, Bad Cop accumulated $12 million at the box office, setting a new record for a Canadian film.

Érik Canuel leaves to mourn his partner and “faithful accomplice”, Julie, as well as his children, Elodie, L’ami.e and Justine, his brother Nicolas (Geneviève), Elliott and Flavie, as well as his mother, Lucile.
