Two men lost their lives last Thursday in Nussbaumen following the explosion of fireworks which were probably not authorized in Switzerland. The tragedy occurred in a locked room.

The explosions which killed two people on Thursday evening in Nussbaumen (AG) took place in a locked room in the underground car park. There is currently no indication of the use of explosives, according to the Aargau Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Exploding fireworks are most likely not permitted in Switzerland. As there is no evidence of military or similar explosives, the investigation falls under the jurisdiction of the Aargau Public Prosecutor’s Office and not the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, spokesman Adrian Schuler told Keystone-ATS on Monday. of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the canton of Aargau.

A 43-year-old Italian and a 24-year-old Swiss man were killed in the explosions. “The situation is complex. The forensic investigations are continuing at full speed,” said Adrian Schuler.

The explosions took place in a closed room in the underground car park. The spokesperson confirmed the statements of the fire chief on regional television TeleM1.

A hundred people evacuated

Two employees of the Aargau property insurance company (AGV) are on site to assess the damage. Estimates of the amount of damage are not yet available, the AGV told Keystone-ATS.

Around a hundred people were evacuated from rental buildings located above the underground parking lot. Some of them were able to return to their homes and another part are staying with friends or relatives.

On Monday, 27 people were still in accommodation organized by the municipality, said Bettina Lutz-Güttler, president of the municipality of Obersiggenthal (AG), of which Nussbaumen is a member. (ats)

This weekend, many heads of state are negotiating peace in Ukraine at the Bürgenstock. Famous historian Jörn Leonhard explains what we can expect from this summit and why it is dangerous to have too many expectations.

When we look at the history of wars, the beginning is always concrete, but the return to a situation of peace is more difficult to define. It almost seems to occur incidentally.
It is much easier to define the beginning of wars than their end. Just think of the defenestration of Prague, the attack on Sarajevo or the invasion of Ukraine. The end of a war, on the other hand, is often confused and fragmented. In Eastern Europe, World War I ended as early as 1917 in some places, while in South-Eastern Europe it lasted until 1923.
