POSITION 1: Drilling and blasting engineer

Fekola SA, one of its subsidiaries in Mali is looking for a:

Drilling and blasting engineer

Tasks and responsibilities:

The primary function of the Drilling and Blasting Engineer is to assist the Mining Department in the development of mining plans in accordance with the annual objectives of the Fekola Complex and to provide comprehensive, accurate and timely technical support for safe execution. , cost-effective and environmentally friendly approved mining plans. This includes aspects of drilling and blasting, production, planning and monitoring, reporting and analysis, cost monitoring, design of mining facilities (pits, dumps, stockpiles, infrastructure, etc.) and monitoring of field execution against to the design.

Reporting to the Chief Mining Engineer, the position will be based at the Fekola site in Mali.

Specific tasks:

Training:

  • Train and supervise engineers, graduate engineers and interns within the mining department.
  • Contribute to cross-training the engineering team.

Use of software:

  • Effectively use software to accomplish tasks described in the job description, including:
    • MineSight
    • Deswik
    • Alastri
    • O-Pit Blast
    • BlastMap
    • Thor
  • Collaborate with drilling and blasting specific software vendors to implement the latest updates for the drilling and blasting engineering team, propose improvements to vendors and resolve potential issues, as well as organize any necessary training (with the approval of the Chief Mining Engineer).

Job specific responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize detailed blasting patterns, ensuring compliance with Master Blasting Plans.
  • Propose blasting patterns, plan drilling, prepare blast loading sheets and implement connection plans.
  • Coordinate closely with the Drilling and Blasting Superintendent to adjust field patterns as needed.
  • Thoroughly document all changes to individual blasting plans and ensure their correct integration.

Skills and Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in mining engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in drilling and blasting application, with at least 1 year of practical field experience.
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience using software specific to the mining sector is an asset.
  • Possesses driving skills and holds a valid driver’s license.

POSITION 2: Mining Engineer

Tasks and responsibilities:

Daily reports

  • Compile and distribute daily internal (DPR) and external (DPS) production reports, keeping distribution lists up to date.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and resolve issues with data providers.

Daily planning

  • Develop and distribute executable daily plans and verify that requirements are met to enable execution of the plan.
  • Manage daily computer files in collaboration with other departments.
  • Complete and distribute daily critical tasks and reporting requirements.
  • Complete and distribute the 24-hour plan.

Planning and management of pits and landfills

  • Monitor short-term progress and compliance with pit and landfill designs, and communicate observed deviations.

Project works

  • Prepare and communicate executable project packages for required works, including design of drainage systems, roads, landfill rehabilitation, etc.
  • Support the execution of projects in the field through regular verifications.

Weekly planning

  • Contribute to weekly planning meetings, including gathering information and proposing sequences.

Data analysis

  • Review daily data to identify opportunities for improvement and understand the underlying causes of variances.

Compliance with weekly plan

  • Track daily compliance to weekly planning, propose solutions to rectify deviations and report overall compliance.

Work design

  • Create and distribute short-term designs necessary to execute the Two Week Plan (2WP).

Environment

  • Provide topsoil clearing and stripping areas to the mining team as needed.
  • Monitor environmental compliance of clearing and topsoil stripping work.

Contribution to the development of blasting plans

  • Contribute to the development of blasting plans, including information on sequences and potential opportunities.
