Around 1 p.m., Sunday November 10, 2024, some 21 firefighters emergency centers in Colomiers, Toulouse-Atlanta and Toulouse-Delrieu were mobilized for a fire that occurred in a house of Léguevin (Haute-Garonne), west of the Pink City.
Chemicals and lithium batteries in the garage
Precisely, the firefighters were required to fight against a garage fire adjoining a detached house, comprising one floor. When emergency services arrived, the fire had already spread and the garage was completely engulfed in flames.
The intervention turned out to be delicate, because the garage, of around 50 m², “contained chemicals et batteries au lithium », specifies the SDIS of Haute-Garonne. Firefighters quickly deployed two fire hoses, including one on large scalewhich made it possible to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the home, even though “the presence of photovoltaic panels has made extinction more complex,” adds the SDIS.
No casualties, but heavy damage
The essential is safe, still according to the emergency services: no casualties is not to be deplored. The disaster, however, caused significant release of smoke right into the home.
And the damage will be important for these affected residents. Before ventilating the burned areas for a long time, the firefighters used a thermal camera“in order to control the persistent heat of the materials” with a view to carrying out excavation et stripping of the building.
In addition to firefighters and police, teams from Enedis and GRDF were mobilized. Étienne Cardeilhac-Pugensthe mayor of the town, was also there.
