House of the Dragon is an American television series adapting the novel Fire and Blood by George RR Martin released in 2018. It is a chronicle dedicated to the Targaryen dynasty and above all a prequel to Game of Thrones, a series HBO success from 2011 to 2019. House of the Dragon is set between 200 and 170 years before the events of Game of Throne. The series focuses on the period known as the “Dance of the Dragons”, a period of unrest in Westeros where the Kingdom is split into two camps which support the accession to the throne of two different heirs. At the time, Viserys Targaryen was first on the throne of Westeros. He has no male heir from his first wife but a daughter named Rhaenyra who could succeed him. However, he obtained sons from his second marriage, which disrupted the order of succession and created the seeds of dissension.
